Different types of veneer – the advantages and uses

Let’s start with what veneer is anyway. This is nothing more than wood panels, or so-called veneers, which can be used to cover furniture. However, on the market you will find many types of veneer, and each of them will differ slightly from each other

Natural veneer

The most popular is natural veneer. It is made from natural wood, usually oak or beech. It is a great alternative to solid wood, and it is also incredibly durable. And how is this wood veneer produced? The individual sheets are extracted by punching them out of the wood and then gluing them back together. This is the most natural veneer, which looks like the texture of wood.

It is worth remembering, however, that if the tree had imperfections, natural veneer will not mask them. Most often, furniture veneer from veneer, both natural and modified, is used to cover the fronts of classic and thus achieve a decorative effect. In addition, it is worth noting that the removal and installation of new furniture veneer is much more economical than buying new equipment.

Modified veneer

Another type of veneer is modified veneer. Like natural veneer, it resembles natural wood in appearance, but in this case the grain and knots are applied in the form of a mechanically formed pattern. For the production of modified veneer is used wood of exotic origin. They are also subjected to slicing and then gluing, but during the treatment discoloration and any imperfections are removed. The biggest advantage of this type of veneer is the fact that the modified wood texture is free of any blemishes, and all patterns are repeatable, which allows you to get a consistent appearance of furniture

Velour, suede and flock veneers

Velour, suede or flock veneers will also be a very effective solution. They are, above all, exceptionally aesthetic and give furniture a luxurious character. They are also characterized by a huge variety when it comes to colors and design. Moreover, they are extremely resistant to abrasion and extremely pleasant to the touch.

PVC veneer

A very popular solution that works well not only as a furniture finish, but also as the top layer of doors, window sills and door frames, is veneer made of PVC film. This is a type of veneer that allows for high resolution printing, so this material will work perfectly as a children’s furniture veneer. It can also be used as a finish for countertops in the kitchen and bathroom. The choice is really huge, because the graphics printed on the foil can be any. Thanks to this, PVC furniture veneers are available in very many patterns, which allows for a variety of applications. In addition, PVC furniture veneers are resistant to ultraviolet radiation, scratching and washing, and those covered with a latex layer are safe for allergy sufferers – they are odorless and non-toxic.
