Visible inspection holes can spoil any arrangement. Find out how you can effectively mask them to make your bathroom functional and aesthetically pleasing.

What are inspection holes for?

Before we move on to discuss ways to mask inspection holes, it’s worth first introducing their purpose. Many people who haven’t renovated a bathroom before, or who haven’t had to fix a pipe or plumbing malfunction in the bathroom, are unaware of their functionality. Inspection holes provide easy access to pipes, lines, filters, water meters or valves. To ensure a quick response in the event of an emergency, it is necessary to leave an uncovered section of the wall that can be aesthetically masked. So how to hide inspection holes in the bathroom? We suggest!

Grille – a clever way

For some time now, pipe bezels, which are usually equipped with hinges or magnets that make them easier to open, have been quite popular. Grilles, also often called inspection doors, are usually made of plastic or aluminum. In home improvement stores you can usually find models in white or metallic colors. The big advantage of such grilles is that they can be mounted vertically or horizontally, making it easy to match the shape of the tiles.

The grille can be painted with paint in the color of the walls or finished with tiles, so that it will not stand out against the background of the bathtub or shower tray, which are enclosed with this particular material. Proper finishing of the grille will ensure that the bathroom will not lose its aesthetics, and access to the installation will be simple and quick.

Covering inspection holes with a cabinet

A good idea to hide the inspection hole is to place it on the side of the bathtub and get a cabinet for it. If the water valves are located in the wall, then you can also use a pipe grille and obscure the whole thing with a cabinet or half-pillar. However, remember that furniture placed in this way should be easy to put away – attach it to the wall in such a way that you can quickly put it away.

What instead of inspection holes?

If we have such a layout in the house or apartment that the laundry room or dressing room is adjacent to the bathroom, for example, we can provide insight into the installations and pipes from this very room. This solution is not only aesthetically pleasing, but also very convenient, because in the event of an emergency you can conveniently carry out repairs without blocking access to the entire bathroom.

What size should the inspection hole be?

As you can see, there are at least several ideas for masking inspection holes. Professional builders or home do-it-yourselfers could certainly boast of a few more ways they used during renovations. Regardless of which method of concealment you decide on, it is necessary to take care of the correct dimension of inspection holes so that you can freely carry out the necessary work during an emergency. It is recommended that the inspection hole be at least 20×20 cm and, very importantly, and often overlooked, its distance from the trap or other installation should be a maximum of 50 cm. Such dimensions and distances are a guarantee that all repairs will be carried out in the most comfortable conditions possible.
