Home Remedies for Food Moths

Once they hatch, they are hard to get rid of – food moths are very troublesome occupants. Learn about home remedies to remove them from your kitchen.

Food moths are most likely to breed in cupboards with loose, dry products such as flour, groats or rice. See how to get rid of them.

Vinegar, citrus and cloves

  1. Wipe down any cabinets that could use moths inside with a mixture of water, vinegar and citrus or clove oil.
  2. Place a bowl of hot vinegar in a cabinet and keep it inside until the vinegar has cooled.
  3. Prepare a clove infusion, place it in the cabinet and let it cool.
  4. Scoop cloves into the peel of an orange or lemon and place it in the kitchen cupboard.
  5. Put vanilla flavoring in the kitchen cabinet.

How to store products to avoid moths?

First of all, try not to store products in plastic bags – such packaging promotes the spread of moths. It’s best to store foods like flour, rice and groats in glass, tightly sealed jars.
