Interiors in which tiles will work are, of course, the kitchen and the bathroom. It is for these rooms that we can find the most arrangements. However, to create an original interior, you need to choose the right size, color and texture of tiles.
When considering the size of tiles, you should take into account the size of the room. A small shower will look odd if you decide to use very large tiles in it, and a huge kitchen won’t look good tiled with small mosaics. Choose a tile size that complements the space of your room
Kitchens are traditionally tiled with standard 10cm square tiles, but rectangular brick-like tiles are now becoming popular, as are larger tiles.
This partly depends on what area of the kitchen you intend to tile – you may only want a few rows of tiles over the countertop, or you may be planning to tile the entire wall, in which case a larger tile is more appropriate.
When arranging your bathroom, consider the space between the toilet, sink and tub or shower. If these items are close together, a smaller tile will look better, allowing for better line flow and reducing the need to cut tiles into awkward shapes. If you have a large room, larger tiles mean less grout and a sleeker look.
One very important thing to think about, which in many ways determines the size of tile you can use, is how flat your walls are. If your walls are particularly wavy and uneven, using large tiles is not a good option, due to the fact that any raised areas of the wall will be accentuated and the tiles will not line up.
In this situation you have a couple of options, first tear down the entire wall, level it and then re-finish it to get a flat surface or you can use smaller tiles that will cover up the unsightly higher areas a bit.
A simple square layout can be broken up with a border of decorative tiles – thin rectangles or small mosaics in a contrasting color. Large rectangular tiles are often used in bathrooms – usually vertically, so that the rows are higher than the width of the column. Smaller rectangular tiles can be used in a brick pattern to great effect.
When choosing a wall tile color, there are several things to consider. Are you completely renovating the decor with new paint or wallpaper, flooring and accessories? If so, you can choose a tile you like and design the rest of the room to match. Or maybe you need to choose a color that matches the rest of the room? When it comes to kitchens, you need to choose a color that matches the furniture and countertops.
Darker colors obviously make a room look smaller and poorly lit, but a highly reflective surface will help counteract this.
Bathroomtiles don’t necessarily follow the same rules as other rooms – dark colors are acceptable in the bathroom because it’s generally assumed that the room is small. You don’t spend a lot of time there, so natural light is not as important as in other rooms.
An effective way to combine colors is to choose a simple base color for most tiles, but balance it with a decorative or contrasting border. Such variations are offered by Paradyż, for example. Alternatively, you can choose two, three or four colors that go well together and arrange them in a pattern
There are many different finishes to choose from. Ceramic tiles, like those made by Tubądzin, can look like stone, and a nice country-style kitchen will look very good with uneven, rustic tiles.
Bathrooms are more likely to suit a high-gloss finish because it reflects light to make the room look larger. However, if you have a large room and want a warmer atmosphere, choose a matte finish.
Ceramic porcelain tiles are very striking and can look like stone, but they cannot be cut without a good wet tile cutter. Rough and rustic tiles look good, but are much harder to grout (and clean!) Than a nice, smooth finish.
